Pixel Font Forge is a retro-first pixel font editor built for people who care about constraints.

It lets you design bitmap fonts glyph by glyph, on strict grids, without smoothing, interpolation, or hidden adjustments. Every pixel you place is exactly the pixel that will ship.

The tool is designed for real use cases, not mockups:

  • Edit fonts on fixed grids (8×8, 8×16, Game Boy, VGA-style presets)
  • Work directly at the pixel level, with no anti-aliasing or automatic corrections
  • Preview complete character sets as true sprite sheets
  • Export to practical formats:
    • Sprite sheets
    • C headers for embedded and retro projects
    • Game Boy-ready assets
    • TTF for modern pipelines

The interface is intentionally blunt and functional, inspired by early desktop systems and classic toolchains. It prioritizes clarity and control over visual polish.

Pixel Font Forge also includes optional AI-assisted generation to help kick-start glyph sets, but it never replaces manual editing. The goal is assistance, not automation.

This tool is made for developers, demosceners, emulator authors, and anyone who needs fonts that respect real hardware limits.

If pixels are data to you—not decoration—this tool was built for your workflow.
