Images to Game Boy!

I’ve always loved the aesthetic constraints of the Game Boy—those 4 iconic shades, the square resolution, the limitations that somehow make everything more charming. While working on some personal homebrew projects, I kept needing to convert images to the exact specs of the original hardware… and none of the tools I found really gave me what I needed.
So I made one.
The Game Boy Image Converter started as a quick personal utility but quickly grew into something I wanted to share. I added:
- Support for 160×144, 4-color output using the DMG palette
- A 1-bit mode for 160×96 conversions, with optional inversion
- A custom mode for fine control (dimensions, dither, format, invert, crop/stretch…)
I also gave it a UI that feels like something out of a Game Boy devkit—simple, pixel-clean, and a little nostalgic.
It works entirely in the browser, even offline. Perfect for quick conversions, mockups, or preparing assets for tools like GB Studio.
Let me know if you use it in your project—I’d love to see what you’re making!
